A two-deck set made from plastic is a must for serious card players. KEM cards are considered the best in the industry, a standard in casinos and tournaments everywhere. Made of 100 percent cellulose acetate, they are flexible, strong, and they resist scuffs and breaks, all of which should ensure years of play from a single deck.
Mention online casinos, and there is a tendency to automatically think of the numerous types of slot machines, and perhaps the matching and gems-type games that are becoming increasingly popular.
But that is to ignore the skill-based games that are not only more interesting and involving, but also present the best chance of winning. When a game is pure chance, you can have predefined odds of success, along with the house edge.
To put it at its simplest, you have an even money chance of winning a coin toss, and taking the house edge into account, that means in the long run, you’ll take home, say, 95 cents on every dollar wagered. There’s no skill involved in tossing a coin, and there’s nothing you can do to improve your chances – the same applies with roulette and slot machines.
With a game of cards, however, you can use strategy to shave one or two percent off the house edge, and improve your chances of winning. So what are the best real casino games you can play online related to cards?
1) Blackjack
Without a doubt, the most popular casino game is blackjack. A major part of its appeal is its basic simplicity – a child of five can pick up the rules in no time. Yet once you start getting into the strategy, you discover that the game can be as complex as you want to make it.
The thing to remember about basic strategy is that if you play smart, the house edge can be brought down to less than one percent, depending on the table rules in play such as the number of decks in use and whether the dealer has to hit or stand on soft
But with the most favourable rules, the house edge can be as low as 0.2 percent.
2) Poker
As online casinos have become more sophisticated, there are as many ways to play poker online as there are variations of the game itself. The video poker games that we are all familiar with are generally based on five-card draw, with further variations on the theme, such as deuces wild, jokers wild and so on.
However, the growing popularity of live casino games, where you can play online against real opponents as opposed to a random number generator, has really added a new dimension. Here, Texas hold’em is the game of choice, although there are opportunities to play other variants.
3) War
Who didn’t play this simple card game as a child? Now you can relive your youth in the casino and go up against the dealer in a game of casino war. A single card is dealt and the highest score wins, it’s that simple. It might seem at first that there is no house edge, but in fact there is, due to the way ties are handled, and it works out at about 2.3 percent.
4) Baccarat
This most traditional of casino games, and the one favoured by James Bond, is enjoying something of a resurgence thanks to online casinos. The rules are simple enough – you can bet on the banker’s hand, your own hand or a tie. As the banker wins more than he loses, the house will charge a five percent commission on winning banker bets, but even with this in play, the house edge is only a little over one percent.
5) Solitaire
Back in the early days of personal computers, solitaire was discovered by a whole new generation, as it typically came pre-installed on most systems. While it is certainly not a traditional game within the walls of the land-based casinos, many of the most popular online sites offer versions of the game where you can play for real money. Typically, you place an initial wager and then you receive a reward for every card you successfully place. You need to place 10-11 cards to break even, and after that, it is all profit.
A virtually perfect game
We can expect card games to receive a further boost to their growing popularity with the latest craze in virtual reality. The format of a dealer and a deck of cards is perfect for the fledgling technology, and is already starting to appear in the highly competitive online casino sector.
Table and card games have a long history dating back centuries but despite their age they are still some of the most popular casino games around today.
In recent years as well as experiencing the thrill of the casino on a social night out with friends and family, you can now play them all with a tap of the button online – all from the comfort of your own home or while you are out and about.
Here we take a look at the most popular cards and casino games around online and at our casinos.
Blackjack
Blackjack, or ’21’ as it is often called continues to be one of the biggest attractions at your local casino and online and one of the most popular card games.
It’s simple format of trying to reach ‘21’ makes it easy for everyone to understand and get to grips with as you try and beat the dealer without busting (exceeding 21)
The dealer and players are dealt two cards to begin with, and you can either stand (end turn) or hit (take another card), double (Take another card and double your stake) or split (separate your two cards into two hands) in order to try and maximise your opportunities of reaching 21.

Baccarat
Also known as Punto Banco, Bacarrat is more commonly associated as a high stakes game and is often played away from the main casino floors.
That may deter a few, but the game is relatively simple where you either back the punter or the dealer to have the best hand, with a return of evens if you bet on the correct outcome. You can also back a tie, and that returns a very tasty 8/1.
As soon as the value of the hand goes above nine, ten is subtracted from the total (e.g nine and six would leave you with a total of five).
Craps
This game is one of the more complicated table casino games, but the potential reward is much higher than some of the others.
At its simplest form a player has to throw two dice and If those two dice add up to a total of 7 or 11, everyone who placed a bet on the shooter wins even money. However, you lose the bet if the shooter rolls a combined total of two, three or 12.
Any other score rolled becomes the ‘point’, which the shooter has to try and roll (before a seven) for all ‘Pass Line’ bets to win. If they roll a seven everyone loses, unless you have backed ‘Don’t Pass’
Three card poker

Three card poker is a very popular version of poker, and gives the bettor more of a say in the final outcome.
A player decides on his Ante bet, before being dealt three cards. After that, the player decides whether to play, match their Ante bet, or fold – where they forfeit their Ante bet.
If a player’s hand is better than the dealer’s then they are paid evens on both the Ante and play bets.
However, if the dealer doesn’t have a queen-high or better then only the Ante bet is honoured, with the play bet returned to the player.
Three card brag
Three card brag originated in the 16th century and it is believed to have paved the way for the game of poker.
Place To Pay
So, it is hardly surprising that the game is very similar to that of three card poker. Cards are only shuffled once at the start of the game, or after a winning Prial hand (Pair Royal).
Again you place an Ante bet, and can either fold or play having received your three cards from the dealer.
Betting begins from the left of the dealer and continues all the way round until either all bar one player folds, or two or more players opt to ‘see’- but that costs double the amount of the previous bet. In the event of a draw the player who asked to ‘see’ loses.
